Vietnam Memorial

You walk down along the wall of the memorial, names are engraved, and people are taking rubbings of them. Although there were quite a few people, they were not loud. Everyone seems contemplative. I remember being in Junior High, and my first couple of years of high school. We would wear metal bracelets with the name of a POW or a MIA person (prisoner of war, missing in action). In 9th grade my history teacher was talking to us about WW II. In Santa Fe, near where he lived was by an internment camp for the Japanese Americans.

I remember thinking how sad it was that Americans, born here, and their parents who had come here to try and build a better life, were then rounded up. Fear is the cause of many injustices in our lives.

Vietnam news was played, songs were written concerning it, protests were marched, but I don't remember people talking much about the Vietnamese people, who were trying to be free, as we are.

Within us I think we all know that Heavenly Father wants us to be free. Free to choose, free to believe, free to learn of Him and to return to Him.

I am grateful for all the soldiers throughout our countries history, who have worked, and some have died, to keep us free, and to help others become free.
